by Eric DonderoWhat a putz. Yeah, the label applies to Charlie Cook too, cause he seemingly sides with this un-named schmuck "bigtime Republican DC Consultant," who says that the problem with the GOP is that it's not Centrist enough.
From Cook:
A key question to consider is whether Republicans can quickly address the fundamental problems facing their party, or whether they ignore or misdiagnose their problems and wait for Democrats to self-destruct. In several conversations with some of the smartest Republican pollsters and strategists, it's clear that many have a good fix on the problems of their party. However, there is considerable concern that many elected officials and constituent groups within the GOP are reluctant to hear the advice these consultants feel they need. From the un-named BigShit Political Consultant:
"Second, the shallowness of our policies. Republicans are a whole lot better at being against things than at being for things.... education and health care, we do one of two things. We either avoid them like the plague and are scared to talk about them or, if we say anything at all, it is to propose a tax cut or a tax credit. So, the message is, that the GOP wasn't centrist enough. The problem wasn't that the GOP failed to energize the Right.
Many Republican commentators point out that, even though we lost, this is still a center-right country. It seems to me that statement misses the point. People have changed, although they have not changed the labels they use. There are clearly more people now who want government to address the problems they have to deal with than used to think so in the past. Conversely, there are fewer people now who do not want government involved."[emphasis added]
And this, the day after Saxby Chambliss wins the election in Georgia by 20 points, 60 to 40% over his big government Democrat rival. Why was Chamblis in a run-off to begin with? Because of the Libertarian Party. 3.5% of voters, cast their vote for Libertarian John Buckley on Nov. 4, mostly to send a signal to Chambliss that they were super-pissed off at his vote in favor of the Government Bailout of the Banks and Financial Industry.
The Libertarian Party improved their Presidential vote total by nearly 140,000 votes over 2004. Libertarian Bob Barr ended up with 520,200 votes. In 2004 the Party polled 380,000. A 140,000 vote improvement for the radically anti-government Libertarian Party. Yup, that shows -- Mr. BigShit -- that there are "clearly" less people who don't want government involved, alright.
The Constitution Party with a pretty obscure candidate, polled nearly 200,000 votes this year. That's 725,000 disgruntled voters on the Right.
And how many more stayed at home, and just said "'F' it, I ain't votin'"?
Mr. Cook's friend believes that the problem the Republican Party has is with the Center? Move the Party more to the Center for 2010, and 2012, and watch how the LP's and CP's vote totals increase. Watch how many more voters on the Right get disenchanted with the GOP, and just stay home.

100% agreed with this assessment. Conservatism did not loose, the GOP did, but they can win again if they are actually believable in what they claim to support. With Obama (supposedly) moving to the centre, how do you differentiate yourself? That is where the power and attraction lies, in how you differentiate yourself from another party.
Even worse, Obama is a Leftist who will move even further Left, while the GOP tries to plays catch-up and moves to the Center Left. All this does is move what is the "Center" to the Left, and leaves Rightists way out in the wilderness.
Naturally, with such a scenario Rightists will react in one of two ways: Third Party shunning of the GOP, or Seccession/Independence.
Yes, that is possible and would indeed be the worst outcome. He could start as "moderate" or with the impression, but gradually (or fast) move way left...
He first want to tow people in and make them relaxed
and will use the "shock" of the economic situation as a doctrine and opportunity to change the system radically, a ala Naomi Klein's "shock doctine", only in a different way.
We have already seen a movement to centre-left in the campaign among some... it depends in which aspects they want to move "moderate" or "centre"...if it is with the wrong issue, expect some people with the campaign for liberty to start with a new party, they have the grassroot support and campaign.
Apropo secession, you have probably heard about the Russian academic predicting the US will split in 6. I do not think that will happen, but there could be succession.
Obama will going to call for many more bailouts, that is not going to work and only make the situation worse, with more money taken from the people...expect open revolt on the streets.
And how many Libertarians ended up endorsing John McCain?

Umm, excuse me, but John McCain spent 6 years in a North Vietnamese POW camp. That alone qualifies him to be a Hero in my eyes, and well-deserving to be President of the United States.
Though, I would point out that his lifetime ACU is 82. Not great, but not bad either.
Now compare that to Obama's ACU:
A BIG FAT ZERO.
The Libertarian candidate in Georgia for Senate was Allen Buckley, not John Buckley.
I have tremendous respect for John McCain as an American hero, but that does not translate to my voting for him because he is a big-government RINO neocon politically.
That's right... Keep moving to the right... Please...
Hey, Eric, why don't you erase these spam posts from Money Bonanza?
Who wants to be the mush in the middle? What he should say is fill the void left by the democrats who moved left... The fact that the GOP didn't stand by core principles cost them the race. You had to put several of the GOP candidates together to get everything right, which means they all were defective. The only thing wrong with Palin is that she needs a little more time. I think she should be ready in 2012.
Hector, erased! I'll erase them when I catch them.
Regular readers, please note, that if you see "Comment Deleted by Site Administrator," 99% chance that means it was a Spam post, not a comment by a commenter.
Only two times, just two!, in our entire history have we deleted comments for content. Once was because of the personal insult some Newbie to this site, made about a guy's wife. Remember Big Stick Libertarian? He's on our Blogroll. Some asswipe said something totally over-the-line about his lovely wife, and I deleted it.
Has to be pretty extreme for me to take such measures.
My comment ran a little long so I just posted it to my blog instead.
I hope for Palin (and our sake) she waits til 2016.

Hector, dunno about you, but somehow sure there are many of my posts Eric wish he could have deleted..., like all those he does not react once he got owned :-)
Don't worry Eric, I know behind the bravado is actually a very nice guy...so I think in any case. (I did not see what the guy posted here. Yes, you should delete offensive remarks).
Hector, do you want your Dems to move to the left or the centre?
Yup, Palin should wait till 2016 before she consider. This actually means she need to start campaign in 2014. She needs to "re-invent" herself, but she did get some experience and name recognition. Maybe she could be a VP in 2012 again? I think she herself was thinking about maybe in 8 years, e.g. not 4 years. She should complete her gov., get reelected and in 6 years she could possibly go against Beglich and win the senate seat from him. With experience as governor and senator while still young, she should be in a strong position.
stefan,
"Hector, do you want your Dems to move to the left or the centre?"
